  • Chevrolet’s best ‘first-five-months’ ever, with a total of 26,682 vehicles sold

  • Chevrolet Colorado continues to post strong sales

  • New all-time record in Indonesia and best month in Malaysia since Naza became distributor

Bangkok, Thailand – Buoyed by a strongly recovering market and the strength and relevance of its products, Chevrolet Sales Thailand (Chevrolet) continued to post strong growth in May 2012 in Thailand and the Southeast Asian (SEA) region.

In Thailand, Chevrolet sold 5,944 vehicles, bringing it to a Year-to-Date (YTD) total of 26,682 vehicles. That is more vehicles sold in the first five months of the year, compared with the same period of any year since Chevrolet started operations in this market. This represents a Year-to-Date (YTD) growth of 117 percent compared with the same period in 2011. In Year-on-Year (YOY) terms, Chevrolet grew 112 percent compared with the same month in 2011.

“This is our second-best sales month ever. Sales of the Colorado continue to be strong, accounting for 60 percent of our total sales,” said Antonio Zara, Vice-President of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, GM Thailand/SEA and Chevrolet Sales Thailand.

Chevrolet sold 3,551 Colorados in May 2012, followed by the Captiva which sold 1,001 units. A total of 884 Cruzes were sold while the Aveo continued to attract buyers, boasting 506 new owners in the same month.

“We are confident of further growth in the coming months, with the launch of the Trailblazer and the Sonic. This is in addition to the scheduled opening of new dealers nationwide,” Zara added.

Chevrolet is confident of continued growth, thanks to a strong product portfolio and the launch of more new and exciting models, such as the Trailblazer and Sonic. Thai and ASEAN journalists will get to sample the Trailblazer later this month, in Chevrolet’s major ride-and-drive event, organized to allow the media to have first-hand experience with Chevrolet’s new entry into the SUV-D segment.

According to Zara, Thailand is also the fastest-growing amongst GM International Operations’ (GMIO) markets.

Chevrolet also recorded very encouraging growth in other markets in the SEA region, most notably in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Indonesia’s sales in May 2012 was the best-ever, as 648 Chevrolet vehicles found new owners. Since the start of 2012, to date, Chevrolet has sold 2,231 vehicles in Indonesia, representing a YTD growth of 14 percent and a YOY growth of 28 percent.

Similarly, Malaysia recorded yet another sales record for the month of May 2012, since Naza Quest became the official distributor for the brand, registering a YTD growth of 57 percent and a YOY growth of 93 percent. Sales were buoyed by the recent launch of the Colorado, in addition to the continued popularity of the Cruze.

Meanwhile the Philippines continued on a strong and stable growth trajectory in May 2012, recording YTD growth of 50 percent and YOY growth of 30 percent.
